Recreational
Information City Partners With the Door County YMCA The City of Sturgeon Bay and the Door County YMCA is proud to announce a new partnership that will allow each entity to present to the community its own unique field of service. This new partnership will bring a new level of excellence in service to residents of the community. It also means that there will be a change in the administration of recreational programs, previously provided by the City of Sturgeon Bay. The programs affected for the summer are tennis instruction and the half-day camp for youth. As a direct result of the City's Ad Hoc Budget Review Committee recommendation, adopted the the City Council, City officials recently determined that it would be prudent and responsible to utilize recreational professionals (YMCA) for the recreation component and maximize the resources of the park professionals (City) in a progressive win/win situation for everyone. For those who would like to sign up to participate in the summer programs that were previously administered and staffed by the City, simply call the Door County YMCA to get a registration form or visit their website. These programs are open to anyone in the community, and a Y membership is NOT required for participation in any YMCA program. Financial assistance is also available so that no one will be turned away, due to an inability to afford participation. Beaches Enjoy a cool dip in Sturgeon Bay at one our two beaches - Sunset Park & Otumba Park. Frisbee Golf A six hole frisbee gold course is available at Sunset Park. Bring your frisbee and play a round of frisbee golf. Ice Rink The City of Sturgeon Bay maintains an ice rink, located on the parking lot of the Memorial Field Warming House during the winter season. Watch the newspapers or listen for radio announcements for the schedule. The warming house is open to the public. Trails The portion of the Ahanapee State Trail that lies in City limits starts at the corner of Madison Avenue and Lansing Avenue and extends southerly to Wilson Road. The 2.5 mile marked Ice Age National Scenic Trail begins on the west side of the City at the corner of Madison Avenue and Lansing Avenue and ends at Potawatomi State Park. Take in the views of Sturgeon Bay’s west side waterfront.
