Training:
All firefighters are required to become State
Certified Firefighter I and State Certified First Responder/AED. Most Department
members exceed the minimum requirements. Department members are also trained in
cold water rescue techniques and confined space rescue.
Part-time firefighters:
Eighteen
part-time firefighters supplement the career staff. They carry pagers and are on
call at all times for major incidents and are on call every third week for minor
incidents and working nights at the station. The part-time firefighters are
compensated with: $100 monthly retainer; $20 per hour for calls; $10 per hour
for training; $75 a night for weekday night duty; $120 a night for weekends and
holidays. Part-time firefighters are required to train to the same level as
career firefighters, this usually takes about five years. Part-time firefighters
are given priority when career positions open up. |
